Dear reader: this book kicks-off the "CARPATHIAN WARRIOR" opening series.

Each book will provide lots of new ideas for both sides with the aim of building up your opening arsenal and overall game.

Your series author is the veteren International Master Vladimir ("VLAD THE IMPALER") Okhotnik, 55 years young, from Uzhgorod, Ukraine, where he resides with his family.

Vladimir holds 5 GM norms as of December 2004. One only need look at CHESS BASE and TWIC to see, who this man is in the chess world.

For the last 20 years Vladimir has travelled all over Europe from his native Transcarpathian region to compete in open and invitational events as well as the team competitions of other countries.

Graced with physical strength, quick reflexes and a deep knowledge of chess and life, Vladimir radiates the calm sense of purpose and confidence that comes from a martial arts and coaching background. Vladimir has tremendous self confidence, novel ideas and strong technique. He has a sympathetic type of personality, open and friendly, with a strong nervous system. He is very slow to anger, with no fear or avoidance of contact. He is a sought after coach, who has worked with several prodigies and the team of former women's World Champion Maya Chiburdanidze. He was Champion of Ukraine in 1979.

Vlad is popular because people sense that he really cares about them and he has a knack for building a person's self confidence with his unfailing belief in them.

He never misses a chance to affirm you and he's not stingy with his time and attention. When you work with Vladimir, you begin to feel and play like superman! It's amazing.

In today's world we are much in need of people to look up to and Vladimir is providing the necessary qualities for success in chess.

Throughout the book, to avoid confusion, we will be speaking with one voice, the voice of VLAD THE IMPALER, CARPATHIAN WARRIOR! Good bless and mastery in servitude.
