The Dunst Opening. 1 Nc3, has developed into a solid, flexible system that may lead to a variety of openings through transposition or stand on its own. This unusual opening will appeal to those who wish to avoid over-analyzed positions. Bill Wall has collected over 300 games from all over the world, arranged by variation and sub-variation. This game collection includes games ranging from international competition, both over-the-board and correspondence, to club play. 1. Nc3 can be a useful surprise opening which has been tested in world correspondence championship play and top level tournament play by several International Masters. The Dunst Opening is a very playable opening for the venturesome who are willing to depart from the most analyzed openings. This book contains a complete player list and index of variations.
All of the games are also available on computer disk.

Chess openings can be well-known and analyzed in great detail or more unusual, less analyzed, and used for psychological reasons or to transpose into a more well-known opening. Here is a collection of games arising from 1.Nc3, the Dunst Opening, also known as the Heinrichsen Opening, Kotrc's Opening, the Baltic Opening, van Geet's Opening, or simply the Queen's Knight Opening. Right from the start, White plays a strong and flexible opening. It may also transpose into a Sicilian Closed Variation, Queen Pawn Game, Center Counter Opening, Vienna, or a French Defense. Substantial analysis through correspondence play and games by masters has made this a solid, irregular opening that is quite playable. Today, International Masters (IMs) such as Zvonimir Mestrovic, Andrzej Sydor, and Dirk van Geet play this opening often. You will find this collection of over 300 games played by IMs as well as the average club player collected from all over the world.
Ted A. Dunst was born on April 11, 1907 in New York City and died on December 18, 1985 in Lambertville, New Jersey. He was a New York master who analyzed and played 1.Nc3 frequently with success.
