The purpose of this book is to give an up-to-date survey of lines in the Sicilian 2 c3 (1 e4, c5 2 c3) and the Smith-Morra Gambit Declined (1 e4, c5 2 d4, cd 3 c3 with 3....Nf6, 3....d5, or 3....d6) We will show how they transpose.
These two basic move orders are covered:
1 e4, c5 2 c3 (Part One)
1 e4, c5 2 d4, cd 3 c3 (Part Two)
The second move order is the most direct. But, as we shall see, there are points to using the move order 1 e4, c5 2 c3.
One obvious difference in the two move orders is that after 1 e4, c5 2 d4, cd 3 c3 Black has the option of accepting the Gambit with 3....dc. Since this book examines only the Smith-Morra Declined lines, we refer you to books on the Smith-Morra Accepted.
