"Garry Kasparovs Fighting Chess" ist eine stark aktualisierte 2. Auflage eines Buches, das in Deutschland unter dem Titel "Schach als Kampf" erhältlich ist. Während die 1. Auflage nach dem Kandidatenkampf Kasparows gegen Beljawski 1982 abbricht, umfaßt die 2. Auflage den Zeitraum bis Sommer 1995, also auch den eigentlichen Teil seiner Karriere. Für Chronisten wird dieses Buch in bezug auf reine Turnierergebnisse das eine oder andere Neue bieten (Oder wußten Sie etwa, daß Kasparow zwischen 1990 und 1992 eine Fernsehpartie gegen spanische Fernsehzuschauer spielte?), das ist es dann aber auch schon. Die Hintergrundberichte sind ebenso wie die Partiekommentare nicht besonders tiefgründig (bei weitem kein Vergleich zu etwa "Test of Time"). Das Buch ist nichts Halbes und nichts Ganzes, ich hätte mir lieber zwei Bücher gewünscht (eine detaillierte Biographie und eine Sammlung ausführlich kommentierter Partien).
