In 1992 the name Purdy re-emerged in an explosiv way. Who was Purdy and what was all the interest?
In 1953 Cecil John Seddon Purdy became the world's first correspondence chess champion. He was from an unlikely place, Australia! Concurrently, he had published a small, but powerful, chess magazine called Chess World.
He became known, during that time, as a great chess writer and teacher - even world champion Bobby Fischer admitted that. Now a whole new generation is discovering his remarkable talent for explaining chess so that everyone can understand and improve.
Vol. 1 of C.J.S. Purdy's Fine Art of Chess Annotation and Other Thoughts started the new revolution with 100 annotated games. The book quickly went out of print. Volume 2 presents 120 annotated games along with 13 articles from Purdy's various publications.
Dr. Ralph J. Tykodi, emeritus professor of chemistry, compiled the games and articles for all of the recent Purdy projects. He lives in Massachusetts with his wife Lois.
