Nach dem Einführungskapitel über Taktik, Positionsspiel und Planfassung (S. 5-15) bespricht der Autor die Grundprinzipien des Positionsspiels (Bauernstrukturen; zuerst die am schlechtesten platzierte Figur besser aufstellen - nach Steinitz; Türme auf c1(8), d1(8) oder e1(8)?; Nachteile des schematischen Spiels - S. 16-43).
Die nächste Lektion "Keeping Control" hat in erster Linie verpflichtende Bauernzüge und die Rolle ungleichfarbiger Läufer bei Angriffsoperationen auf die Königsstellung zum Thema (S. 44-72).
Wie man Fehler vermeidet, erklärt der Verfasser im Anschluss (S. 73-84), um dann das Angriffsspiel und taktische Verwicklungen ins Visier zu nehmen - Vorbild Michail Tal (S. 85-103).
Schließlich zeigt Kinsman, wie man durch überraschende Wendungen einen ungünstigen Partieverlauf mitunter noch entscheidend beeinflussen kann
(S. 104-118), und gibt Hinweise zur Bewältigung der Zeitnotphase in der Wettkampfpartie (S. 119-131).
Zu jedem Kapitel werden jeweils vier Übungsaufgaben gestellt (zusammen 24), deren Lösungen im Anhang aufgeführt sind (S. 132-144). Zudem werden im Text insgesamt elf vollständige Partien und 48 Partiefragmente als illustrierende Beispiele vorgestellt.
