It's due to the efforts of John van Manen, the "guardian of Australian chess history" (according to Ken Whyld) that a bibliography of Australian chess literature was published for the first time in 1975. This 1st edition was a mimeographed typewritten manuscript of 11 sheets only, certainly it couldn't reach too many chess bibliophiles in or outside of Australia. So it is not listed in the chess bibliography of A. Lusis (1991) which records the 2nd edition of 1978 and the two following supplement volumes of 1983 and 1989 respectively. Bob Meadley and Paul Dunn have continued Van Manen's work by preparing the third (2003) and the current fourth edition (updated to 2009). Compared to the previous edition, this one has not only been revised but also significantly enlarged: It contains two additional chapters, "A Tribute to John van Manen" by Bob Meadley as weil as "A Trip through Bob Meadley's Chess Library". Moreover, this bibliography was beautifully enhanced by including numerous coloured pictures from the archives ofBob Meadley.
