The French defense has become one of the most important closed openings. It is a solid, positional opening. Yet, there are many traps and pitfalls to be aware of for both sides of the chessboard. It has been left to players of imagination and intuition to find new ideas in the French for it to become a difficult and dangerous opening. It is the task in the present volume to bring together the many chess miniatures of all variations arising from the French defense. To assist the reader seeking some particular variation of this opening, the games of this book are arranged by the Encyclopedia of Chess Openings (ECO) Index.
