Leading teacher of chess and organizer of award-winning chess website ChessKID provides the ultimate book to help your kids learn not just chess, but how to think like a future grandmaster. Too many chess books for kids just teach the technical side of chess but not the thinking skills needed to put that knowledge to best use. Through years of experience - including the teaching of grandmasters Luke McShane and Jonathan Rowson - the author provides his unique way of teaching children (6 to 9 years old). The book:
·Uses a story line to take the reader through the book
·Uses subversive humour to hold the reader's interest
·Incorporates fun facts and jokes about chess
·Includes advice for parents and teachers
·Includes links to chessKIDS academy website to enable children to practice what they have learned using video games, quizzes and chess games against computers.
.
The book is divided into two parts:
Part 1:
The Board Room (introduction to board and pieces): Pawn School: Rook School: Bishop School: Queen School:
Knight School: King School: The War Room (teaches understanding of the underlying logic of chess and enables children
to play their first games)
Part 2:
Opening Training (teaches basic opening principles and introduces the most important chess openings): Weapons
Training (introduces tactical devices: forks, pins, skewers, discovered attacks etc): Checkmate Training (basic checkmate
positions and combinations): Strategy Training (an introduction to chess strategy and positional play): Endgame Training
(how to checkmate with King and Queen, King and Rook, basic King and Pawn endings).
